Is Brasserie Chez Clément open on Monday?

In Belgium, the traditional restaurant closing day is Monday, many establishments shut on Mondays to give the team a day off after the weekend. Chez Clément is one of the rare exceptions: the brasserie is open seven days a week, every Monday included, lunch and dinner alike. This is a deliberate commitment of the house, sustained by a kitchen brigade of thirty-two and a head chef, Vincent Frédéric De Laloy, who has been managing the rhythm of the place since 1996.

For British and international visitors who arrive on a Monday and are surprised to discover that most of the Brussels and Walloon brasseries are closed, Chez Clément becomes the natural fallback. Monday lunch tends to be a calmer service, used by business diners, returning regulars, and travellers who want a proper Belgian brasserie meal at the start of the week. Monday evening is the quietest of the seven nights, often perfect for a relaxed dinner without the weekend buzz.

One historical note: the house has been operating on this kind of seven-day rhythm for a very long time. The original inn, “Bruyère à la Croix”, was founded in 1858 by Henri and Sidonie Clément as a coaching relay where travellers passed through at every hour of every day. Five generations on, with Marie and Gilles Verleyen at the helm of the J and JJ Brasserie SA, the seven-day promise is treated as a feature of the heritage rather than an HR concession.
